Ms. Eastman served as the Chair for the national nursing home litigation group in the American Association for Justice (AAJ). She is a frequent speaker and teacher on issues regarding nursing home abuse and neglect. She has lectured on nursing home abuse in Kentucky, California, Washington, Indiana, Virginia, and Florida. In addition to speaking about nursing home abuse, Ms. Eastman has been an invited speaker and teacher at the National Judicial College, the American Association for Justice’s annual national convention, and has spoken at law-sponsored events in Kentucky, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Nevada, California, and Louisiana. She is routinely asked to speak and present papers at lawyer education programs offered across the United States on trial advocacy, deposition techniques, nursing home abuse, and medical negligence.

Ms. Eastman was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She majored in both English and Political Science at Kent State University, where she received both athletic and academic scholarships. Ms. Eastman went to law school at the University of Louisville. She was the Executive Editor of the law review at Louisville and was awarded several academic and writing scholarships. Ms. Eastman graduated in 1990 at the top of her class, receiving honors as well as several awards and distinctions.

After graduating from law school, Martha clerked for the Honorable Harry W. Wellford, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. She then became an associate at Cravath, Swaine and Moore in New York City, where she worked in the litigation department. She became associated with the law firm of Armstrong Allen Prewitt Gentry Johnston and Holmes in Memphis, Tennessee, and worked primarily in insurance defense (including medical negligence), employment law, and First Amendment law.

Ms. Eastman now focuses her practice on medical negligence, including cases involving obstetrics and gynecology, cancer, orthopedics, emergency room medicine, nursing home abuse, and civil rights violations.

Ms. Eastman was a competitive swimmer at Lakeside Swim Club from first grade through her college years at Kent State University, where she was awarded athletic and academic scholarships. Today, Ms. Eastman competes in triathlons around the world. She finished the World Championship Ironman Triathlon in 1995 and 1997. In fact, in 1997, she finished first among all women lawyers in the world at the Ironman Championship. Also, in 1997 and in 1999, she was chosen to compete for the United States National Team at the World Championships in Perth, Australia, and Montreal, Canada, respectively. In addition, Ms. Eastman competes in bicycle races and local running events.
